Professor Francisco Olea led the largest in-person course to date at the Pascua Yaqui Tribe- University of Arizona Microcampus. Professor Olea’s Tribal Gaming Law and Policy course brought together 32 participants from four Arizona tribes, creating an unprecedented space for learning, collaboration, and community.

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe–University of Arizona (PYT-UA) Microcampus celebrated the achievements of students who completed the Professional Development Certificate in Tribal Courts and Justice Administration during a special graduation ceremony held on Friday, May 23, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM

An entrepreneur and member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Gomez spent 10 years working at Casino Del Sol before realizing that there are more opportunities for growth for a Native.

The game was the university's second annual Land Acknowledgement Game, designed to recognize the contributions and traditions of Native American communities in Arizona and beyond.

“It's easy to say, well, you know, the tribes in Arizona were colonized and then put on reservations,” Faculty Co-Chair of the Indigenous Peoples’ Law and Policy Program Robert Williams said. “But that's not where the story ends because where did that land go that wasn't included in the reservation.”
